In order for this space to become accessible at the level of the Windows Server 2012/16 operating system, you will need to undertake a number of tasks after adding disk space to the server through the panel.
1. Open “Computer Manager”.
Server Manager -> Tools > Compute:
2. Open “Disk Management”.
In the left pane under the “Storage” folder, select “Disk Management”. In the lower right panel, you will have an unallocated area available (Unallocated – in the example below, this area is 40 Gb):
3. Click “Extend Volume”.
Select the drive you want to add storage space to and right-click on it. Then, in the drop-down menu, select the “Extend Volume” section:
4. The “Extend Volume Wizard” will open:
5. Select the size of the unallocated area you are going to mark out (In most cases, you should select all available space). Then click “Next”:
6. Confirm the change by pressing the “Finish” button:
7. Done. To check, make sure there is no unallocated area in the Computer Manager window anymore:
