Putting PostgreSQL into operation on Windows Server

A system that does not cost anything to use is known as PostgreSQL. Every single user has unrestricted to the system’s original source at no additional cost.

Preparation

Download the distribution kit from the official site. The resource provides releases that vary in accordance with the bit depth and operating system family. Choose the Windows x64 version 12.0 operating system:

Run the installer and follow its prompts. At one stage, you will need to create a password:

We enter following the following rules: at least 7 characters, uppercase and lowercase letters of the Latin alphabet, and numbers.

The next step is to specify the port and localization. We leave the port number unchanged, and select the localization “Russian”:

The installation process will take no more than 5 minutes.

Configuring PostgreSQL

When finished, the following message will appear on the screen:

The system will ask you to specify the address of the server from which the Stack Builder utility will download additional libraries and tools for the DBMS. Select as shown in the screenshot and click “Next”. The installer will show a list of available download options. You need to install the component. It is integrated into the PEM-HTTPD package:

Next, select the installation directory – it is recommended to leave the default path, and wait for the installation to complete.

The next step is to connect to the DBMS. Open the Windows command line, go to the section with PostgreSQL installed:

cd "C:Program FilesPostgreSQL9.6bin"

Connecting to console mode:

.psql.exe -U postgres

Now the user can manage the DBMS through the terminal.
