The concept of group policy is used in operating systems of the Windows family. They contain settings templates that apply to one or more user groups. The policy editor is located on the server platform and is built on the basis of the MMC console – it is a flexible tool for creating a secure corporate information system.
Let’s look at how to configure group policies depending on the requirements of the administrator.
How to make changes
Open the working window “Run”, enter the command gpedit.msc. The work area will appear on the monitor:

The left side of the window contains a list of available templates, while the right side displays detailed information on each item. For example, let’s prevent users from installing programs without local administrator rights. Let’s go to the left side of the window along the following path:
Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Windows Installer.
A list of available additional options will open on the right side:

Let’s open additional functions of the item indicated in the image. It defaults to Disabled. Let’s activate it:

Click “OK”, save the changes.
The second example is to prevent users from running third-party Windows applications. In the editor, follow the path:
User Configuration → Administrative Templates → System.
On the right side, select the item marked in red in the screenshot below:

The advanced settings window will open:

Switch the policy to the Enabled status and then specify the applications to which it applies.
