To optimize and speed up the work of virtual machines running VMWare, the Open-VM-Tools software solution is used. Let’s take a closer look at the installation for different operating systems.
Debian or Ubuntu
We update the current state of the programs to the latest via apt-get.
The Open-VM-Tools package is installed using standard OS tools. We are waiting for the end of the operation, after which the solution is available for work:
sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools
CentOS
We are updating the product database.
Installation is done through the standard YUM command.
There are differences for CentOS 6 versions. After installing OVT, start the service:
yum -y install open-vm-tools
Now let’s add it to autoload:
chkconfig vmtoolsd on
FreeBSD
Everything is simple here. We type in the terminal:
pkg install open-vm-tools
The process will take some time. After that, the administrator will have access to full functionality.
