BUG FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS FOR WORDPRESS 6.0 BETA UPDATE

Several weeks ago, observed WordPress’s unveiling of its latest update, WordPress 6.0, which was followed by the launch of its now highly refined, final version, WordPress 6.0 Beta 3, which took place on April 26, 2022.

Given the drastic improvements in the overall user experience on the platform, DomainRooster believes WordPress 6.0 Beta 3 has its many bug fixes and noteworthy tweaks to thank for its most recent successes, some of which we explore in this article.

NEW TWENTY TWENTY-TWO STYLE VARIATIONS

Complementing the new style switcher feature, which now enables you to easily change the global styles with minimal input, the Twenty Twenty-Two default theme now offers three new style variations, accessible by clicking the Browse Styles button.

DUOTONE PRESET BUG FIX

Though now resolved, some users may recall a previously frustrating issue when using the theme.json file in which the bug prevented the site editor from properly displaying a preset added to apply a duotone filter to all images.

You can now add the preset with the code below. Return to the site editor observe the changes after.

NESTED BLOCK STYLE: BUG FIX FOR LINK COLOR

A nagging issue found in previous versions – where a bug made links in a nested block copy the style of the parent block, has also been fixed.

Now, link colours for blocks, whether inside a stack block, group or row, will now operate independently of each other. To see this, create a post with a group block and include a link. Then, set separate colors for the group block and paragraph block inside it.

The changes should now be reflected as intended.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE COMMENTS QUERY LOOP BACK

The new comments query loop block has replaced the post comment block found in WordPress 6.0. It was conveniently developed to be more consistent with its predecessor and now includes quality of life changes like a Comment Title Block, which indicates a title above post. Other additions include a Comment Form Block that users can disable at will and a front-end visible Comment ID.

IMPROVEMENTS

As WordPress works to fully comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 Level AA, their are hard at work on 150+ accessibility improvements, 50+ of which should be present in WordPress 6.0 accessibility improvements. Some key ones are highlighted below:

  • A featured will use the post title as the alt text when linked to a post.
  • The aria-label will now be used on the locked block status icon, the search button and the query pagination.
  • Keyboard controls are improved and there is now an aria-expanded attribute for collapsible blocks.
  • An improved and more descriptive Draft saved text.

UPCOMING UPDATES

Release Candidates (RC), which are basically versions ready for final release, will be launched by the development team to provide the opportunity for feedback. Feel free to report any bug or error you find to the WordPress team until the final release date.
