MariaDB has disclosed a substantial reorganisation of its upcoming release calendar. Before this shift in policy, the main version release occurred once per year, and each version was supported for a period of five years. However, according to the notice, releases will now occur quarterly, and support will be provided for only one year.
This shift corresponds with the organization’s plan to build an enterprise server that will be reserved solely for its subscribers. It is anticipated that this change may likely have an influence on the general use of the community version of the programme in production environments.
The press statement does make reference to “joint cooperation with the (Linux) distributions” in order to begin offering longer support, as well as to compensate for, and adapt to, the new release schedule.
The cPanel team has decided that going forward, they will only support the Long Term Support release. Please take notice that as of the implementation of this change, we will no longer provide support for MariaDB versions 10.7, 10.8, or 10.9 because those versions are scheduled to reach their end of life in 2023.
